Our Visible Learning

At Chesnee Middle School, our goal is to help every student clearly understand what they are learning and feel confident taking charge of their own success. We use the research of Dr. John Hattie and Visible Learning to guide our teaching and create classrooms where learning is purposeful and powerful.

One of the key parts of this work is teacher clarity. Our teachers make sure students know exactly what they are expected to learn, why it matters, and how they will know when they’ve met the goal. When learning is clear, students can focus their effort and celebrate their progress along the way.

We also believe strongly in student ownership of learning. Students are encouraged to set goals, track their progress, and reflect on how they are doing. This helps them build independence and confidence, skills they will use well beyond middle school.

Just as important are the habits of successful learners we want every student to develop:

•Collaboration – working well with others and learning from different perspectives.

•Motivation – staying focused, putting in effort, and not giving up when work is challenging.

•Self-reflection – thinking about their own strengths, challenges, and next steps for growth.

By combining clear teaching, student responsibility, and strong learning habits, Chesnee Middle School is creating a community where every student can learn, grow, and achieve.
